As a mortgage broker, there’s something special about helping someone buy their home.
You’ve been through the plans, the paperwork and the uncertainty together. Then the keys are theirs, and you get to share in that moment.
But I kept finding that our work together wasn’t finished.
Clients would come back after moving in. They wanted to improve their home, deal with existing debts or buy an investment property. They had a clear reason to move forward, but they didn’t know how to fund it with a mortgage they’d only recently arranged.
The same three conversations kept coming up.
What struck me was how many people believed they had no options until their mortgage deal ended. They were putting plans on hold without knowing there might be another way.
Some were surprised that we could explore raising finance just six months into owning their home.
That’s what drew me into secured loans.
They gave me another way to help the people who already trusted me. Depending on their circumstances, we could explore additional borrowing while keeping their existing mortgage in place, with specialist lenders who could sometimes offer more borrowing and greater flexibility than the traditional mortgage route.
But what stayed with me was what that meant to the person sitting opposite me.
Work on their home could finally move forward. Debts that had been weighing on them could be properly reviewed. An investment they thought was out of reach could become something worth exploring.
I love being able to help homeowners who thought they were stuck discover they have a way forward.
Especially when it’s a client I helped into that home in the first place. They’ve come back because they trust me, and that means something to me. I want them to understand their choices and feel confident about the decision they make.
Those conversations became the reason for The Loan Club.
I wanted to build a business around the three things my clients kept asking me for: home improvements, debt consolidation and investment property purchases.
A place where you can explain what you’re trying to achieve, have someone take it seriously and get clear advice about whether secured finance could help.
So I made these three areas my focus, building relationships with specialist lenders and getting to know how they assess each case, where their criteria offer flexibility and what that could mean for my clients.
The more I learned, the more passionate I became about this work. Behind every enquiry was something that mattered to someone: a home they wanted to improve, debts they wanted to get on top of, or a property investment they’d worked towards.
I wanted to understand every opportunity to help them move forward. That meant looking beyond the obvious answer, knowing which lender to speak to and taking the time to understand the circumstances that made each case different.
That became my passion: using what I know to help homeowners see possibilities they didn’t know existed, and engineering those possibilities into reality.
That’s why I started The Loan Club. And it’s why I love doing this.
